Tigre & Family

This is Maggie.

In 2005, when she was about 6 years old, someone abandoned her in a remote, overgrown wooded area of the 3a Seccion of the Bosque de Chapultepec, a huge wooded park in Mexico City. I jogged by and saw her curled up tight in the tall grass, in a flash unexpected rain storm. She was more than skinny and was clearly very hungry. We were both soaked from the rain and she was shivering.

It is common in Mexico for people who no longer want their dogs to dump them in parks. Or sometimes just on the side of the highway. It is a heartbreaking sight because you know which ones were pets. They look lost, are scared and confused, and have no idea what has happened. Maggie had been a pet. She had been spayed and had no clue how to survive on her own.

Luckily the taxi driver that day did not mind the wet dog I brought home with me and luckily my roommate did not mind a 3rd rescue dog in our apartment. Maggie went on to live in a wonderful home in California, with a very loving family which included a sweet brother dog, with lots of dog toys, bones and people that loved her.

Maggie passed away this past year. She was about 14 years old. She was not the first dog I rescued, but she was the first that has passed away. I'm so glad we could give her a happy, wonderful life.
